Fairy Tail is an exciting and expansive anime based on the manga by Hiro Mashima . The beauty of the series is that its stakes are low in the early episodes, giving the viewer a chance to get to know and love the characters. Fairy Tail 's tone ranges from light and cheeky to intensely melodramatic, with plenty of over-the-top characterizations pushing the relentless action scenes. Erza Scarlet
Also known as Titania the Fairy Queen, Erza Scarlet is the most powerful woman in Fairy Tail . With her power of Requip : The Knight or Summon, magical armor, and weapons from a pocket dimension, she has an outfit for every occasion. Initially introduced as a terrifying presence who regularly defeats Natsu and Gray in order to keep them in line, she undergoes the deepest emotional development of any character. Her past as a child slave to evil wizards hardens her, but it is Fairy Tail that teaches her love and loyalty. When this past catches up with her, Erza's friends never leave her side as they defeat Jellal in the Tower of Heaven story arc. It is here that Erza is able to experience the joy of living and fighting for her friends rather than dying for them, giving her new depth. This redheaded warrior is fiercely loyal and is nearly unbeatable when teamed up with Lucy, Natsu, and Gray. Over time, Erza displays something resembling a sense of humor and even a bit of mischief. However, it is her spectacular battle scenes, indomitable will, and intense passion that make her such a memorable character. There are badasses, and then there is Erza.
Natsu Dragneel
The spiky-haired fire dragon slayer is hilarious due to his hair-trigger temper and complete willingness to make fun of him at any moment. Despite his unassuming and slender appearance, Natsu proves to be one of the most powerful members of Fairy Tail .
Natsu was raised and then abandoned by a dragon who taught him magic, and it is his quest to find the dragon that leads him to join Fairy Tail . There, the fire-powered Natsu frequently butts heads with the equally stubborn but ice-powered Gray, forming an unbreakable bond between the two. Natsu's unwavering love and loyalty to his adopted family in Fairy Tail make him impossible to kill, as he is too stubborn to die. When he defeats the wind wizard Erigor with newfound Dragon Slayer abilities, it begins to become clear that there is more to him than meets the eye—and in another adventure, a magic spell reveals that young Natsu is somehow over a hundred years old.
Battle after battle, he grows stronger and stronger, until it is finally revealed that he was resurrected by his brother Zeref to be part of a group of Dragon Slayers destined to slay the most powerful dragon in the world. However, he never stops being a goof when he's not fighting, making fun of Lucy's food and getting motion sickness when dealing with any form of transportation. More importantly, no one loves Fairy Tail more than Natsu, as he and Lucy were instrumental in reforming the guild after it was disbanded.
Lucy Heartfilia
As a member of Fairy Tail , Lucy might have the hardest time. She spends her childhood admiring the guild as an inexperienced celestial mage , then one day out of the blue is invited to join the team. It should be the happiest time of her life... except she realizes that the group is filled with nothing but drunks, people who don't know their strength, and idiots who like to fight every night.
Still, it's not all bad. Lucy manages to find a home with the guild that she couldn't reach even with her own family. They even helped her reach her full potential as a mage... by fighting some of the strongest people on the planet .
While most members of Fairy Tail don't say much about what they want to do when they're not out on quests, Lucy is a bit different. She has goals and desires that aren't quite the same as her partners. She has always wanted to be a writer, and keeps a journal chronicling her and the rest of Fairy Tail's adventures as they go. Eventually, Lucy's intention is to turn her journal into a novel and have it published, becoming a world-renowned author .
Grey Fullbuster
Gray is generally laid back but is easily enraged by Natsu Dragneel . They have argued and fought since they were children. He is an ice user, which may be why he cannot get along with the fire user Natsu. Although they do not get along, there is a mutual respect between the two .
He has the unusual habit of taking off his clothes without realizing it. This habit came from his teacher, Ul.
He uses ice magic to create inanimate objects, normally weapons in battle. Like most members of the Fairy Tail guild, he is fiercely loyal to it. Fairy Tail is like a home to him. Gray is one of the strongest mages in the Fairy Tail guild.
He teams up with Lucy Heartfilia , Natsu Dragneel , Happy , and Erza Scarlet .
He has a special relationship with Juvia . At first totally irritated and uninterested in her advances, he eventually comes to grant her a certain respect and friendship, illustrated in particular by their combined spells.
Juvia Lockser
Initially entering the series as an enemy in the epic showdown between the Phantom Lord and Fairy Tail guilds, Juvia Lockser switches sides after this fight. As Makarov points out, everyone needs a job, right? In Phantom Lord , she's part of a team called Element Four , and her domain is above water. Creepily singing " Drip, drip, drip " as she tries to drown Gray in their battle, she starts out as a terrifying and fascinating villain. In the middle of their fight, she decides she's in love with Gray and spends the rest of the series throwing herself at him. While her powers are fun and she proves loyal and handy in a fight, she quickly becomes tedious as she has no motivation or characterization other than her relentless crush on someone who simply isn't interested. Worse yet, she sometimes fights with the other women who work with Grey, accusing them of stealing them from her.
Exuberant in her attempts with Grey but also touching in her failures. And she becomes more mature as she manages to gain a little respect and attention.
Makarov Dreyar
Fairy Tail 's guildmaster certainly has his charms. He loves his guild members as if they were his own children, often referring to them as his " brats ." He took many in when they were children, leading with the quote "Do fairies have tails? Do they even exist? Like them, this place is an eternal mystery... an endless adventure !" If he had always been this benevolent father figure with a slightly naughty sense of humor, he would be great. However, Makarov is annoying because he tends to treat everyone around him like idiots. He has a hair-trigger temper that punishes guild members based on his often arbitrary rules. He goes from stern taskmaster to permissive uncle at the drop of a hat.
He does his best to protect the guild members. He tries as much as possible to instill rules in them while letting them fly on their own. He's the one who goes behind everyone to fix other people's bullshit and take responsibility in front of the authorities.
On top of all that, this father figure is one of the biggest perverts in the series, spanking Lucy and drooling over many of the women in the guild. He's also not a great family man, as he had to kick his son and grandson out of Fairy Tail . It didn't help that he often neglected the two in favor of his guild as they were growing up.
Luxury Draer
Luxus evolves a lot. He starts from far away having had his father, the master of the Raven Tail guild, Iwan Draer , who was chased out of the guild, and his grandfather, the master of the Fairy Tail guild, Makarof Draer , who mainly took care of the guild. He is one of the best, if not the best mage in Fairy Tail , and he knows it. His behavior is greatly influenced by that, he is sure of himself, on the edge of haughty and hard. He seeks to pull the guild up, first in a totally clumsy way by pushing for confrontation, then by seeking to redeem himself and gain the respect of others. Until he ends up putting his life on the line to save the world of Magnoria.
Wendy Marvell
Wendy is the Sky Dragon Slayer, meaning she has the same power as Natsu Dragneel and Gajeel Redfox , but with the ability to manipulate air. Wendy can eat air, but cannot heal as well in polluted areas. Her magic allows her to heal people from the most serious injuries, even those caused by a dragon. This even allows her to use a kiss to heal other people, which can even counteract other magic. However, there seems to be a limit to how much she can use.
She begins the adventure as a kind and courageous little girl who seeks her place among all the mages of Fairy Tail before gaining confidence and power throughout the episodes. She is always accompanied by her best friend, Carla , an Exceed .
Introduced in the grand Oracion Seis story arc that sees a number of guilds teaming up to fight a greater evil, she shocks everyone by being the sole representative of her guild, Cait Shelter . No one expected a young girl to represent a guild in battle, much less as its sole representative. While entering the story as a source of healing and magical support for the fighting wizards, her own backstory quickly becomes more complicated. When she learns that her guild is actually comprised of dead spirits whose goal is to stop a doomsday device, she is welcomed into Fairy Tail with open arms. As the < Sky Dragon Slayer >, she plays a crucial role in an epic battle towards the end of the series. Her courage, kindness, and loyalty above all else make her easy to root for, while her bubbly enthusiasm and occasional silliness are always endearing.
Elfman Strauss
Elfman Strauss is a mage of the Fairy Tail guild and the brother of Mirajane Strauss and Lisanna Strauss . Elfman is a tall, muscular man with tan skin and blue eyes. He appears with a stitched scar starting at his right eye and running down to his jaw. His Fairy Tail guild mark is located on the left side of his neck and is black in color. His white hair, prior to the Grand Magic Games arc, is styled upwards with white spikes.
Elfman used to be weak and shy. His only talent was cooking. He was kind and even helped Natsu and Lisanna take care of their egg, which would hatch into Happy . He cares deeply for his sisters and draws his strength from them.
He has a constant obsession with being a MAN!!!!! This obsession started when he attempted a full body takeover while working with his sisters. He lost control of the beast he was trying to take over and accidentally killed his younger sister, Lisanna. Since then, the guilt has driven him to be more of a MAN!!!!! Even after Lisanna returned from Edolas , he still held this obsession.
Elfman uses < Take Over > magic. Due to the guilt he described above, he was only able to use his magic on his right arm.
Happy
Happy is a small blue Exceed with a white belly. He has a rectangular head, pink ears, large black eyes with small, thin eyebrows, and light blue cheek markings near his tiny whiskers (two on each side of his face). Happy has a triangular nose that leads to semi-round upper lips on the sides. Happy's body is also rectangular, and being an Exceed , he has a structure that allows him to walk upright unlike normal cats. Despite not having thumbs, Happy is able to hold things. He has a long, white-tipped tail, and the other parts of his tail are blue. Additionally, Happy is able to use his tail to hold onto objects. Happy is usually seen carrying a green backpack, where he keeps food and items that can be used in battle. This backpack also covers his green guild mark that is on his back. Using his magic, he can grow a pair of large, angel-like wings that allow him to fly and carry others. Happy usually doesn't wear clothes, the only times being during the Fantasia parade to dress up as Edolas and when his parents gave him clothes, still in Edolas.
